Featuring recent case studies and hypothetical scenarios, discussions will focus on sharing key lessons that highlight the commercial, pragmatic and criminal features of current medico legal issues from the perspective of patients, practitioners and the Court.

Topics and case studies to be discussed at the 2015 Congress include:International surrogacy arrangements, issues and regulatory responses at home and abroad NDIS: Update on rolloutInnovative treatment law reform debate in the UK Update on recent case law concerning medical misconduct The former Director of Public Prosecutions for New South Wales Nicholas Cowdery QC is speaking at the 24th Annual Medico Legal Congress, March 2015. The former chief prosecutor will be tackling the difficult and highly controversial topic of assisted suicide. Session summary: As a general proposition it is not possible to contract out of the operation of the criminal law. Aiding suicide or attempted suicide is a crime. If the elements of the offence can be proved, a prosecution may follow. The law and recent cases will be discussed, raising some challenges to those involved in this activity.
