Making Communications Work!
Myanmar's telecom and ICT sectors continue to excite the market with fervent interests from leading international players. Two new telecom licences were awarded earlier this year and as new telecom infrastructure are set up, more value added services are about to rollout soon. The opportunities have now open up for more follow up infrastructure developments, networking and many other services and product offerings. The new Telecom Law passed by Parliament will provide more clarity to the market, and new initiatives in the satellite sector are in the offing, with the Union MCIT Minister leading the Committee in-charge of this initiative.
Mobile financial services and banking have also taken off, and mobile microfinance services are being offered to the rural sector. Foreign investments in both the telecom and ICT sectors are welcome. Beyond the two new telco licences awarded, more new licences for foreign joint ventures or foreign entities are in the pipeline. Amongst the wide array of services permitted, the two new operators will be allowed to offer mobile connections, fixed line services, IT and Internet offerings. Myanmar's incumbent telco and ISPs are seeking for suitable strategic foreign partnership. There is an urgent need to upgrade Internet /ICT infrastructure coupled with the huge demand for cloud computing for enterprises in all industries and in government.
The 3rd Into Myanmar Telecoms & IT Summit 2014 will provide the high-level strategic platform for foreign telecom operators, investors, equipment providers and technology leaders to assess new market dynamics, network with government and industry stakeholders, discuss the operational challenges, evaluate options to overcome perceived difficulties, and profit from emerging opportunities in Myanmar's telecom and ICT sectors.
