Beyond MT: Harnessing AI for Multilingual Public Services in the EU

May 29th 2018 13:30 - 13:50

This session will take a look at the current state of artificial intelligence technology in Europe’s localization landscape in particular within a government / EU context. We will start with machine translation, which has already established itself as a core component of today’s localization toolset but is simultaneously undergoing major improvements due to the application of neural networks as its underlying technology. We will look at the current utilization of MT in various localization use cases as well as the bold promises triggered by the early success of NMT. However, we will not stop there and will examine the many new uses of artificial intelligence - beyond machine translation - that are currently being explored in an effort to further advance automation in professional translation, a domain once reserved to just human translators.
