Following the success of Russia’s ERA GLONASS, the European Commission have called for mandatory M2M systems to feature in all automobiles by 2015. This system will be known as Pan European eCall. Pre-Deployment measures are running in two stages, designated HeERO-I & HeERO-II.

eCall is a pan-European in-vehicle emergency call service based on 112, the common European Emergency number. In the event of an accident, data automatically transmitted through the eCall system, whilst a voice call is set up, allowing emergency services to assist vehicle drivers and passengers more precisely and quickly, thus helping to save lives and to treat injuries rapidly.
