The 4th Gulf Education Conference will take place in London on 31 March and 1 April.
It will be held in the presence of Ministers from a number of countries in the region and Higher Education leaders and senior practitioners from the UK and the Gulf region. Again it is expected to showcase developments in Higher Education and be a platform where international partnerships can be formed and exchange of best practices and insight can occur. Discussions at the conference will serve to guide the development of Higher Education in institutions and countries in the region.
The theme for this year is ‘Higher Education 2020’. Starting from the findings of the Horizon Scanning report commissioned by the Leadership Foundation and the International Unit and authored by the Director and staff of the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education, the conference will unpack the main themes. At the macro level it will explore what Higher Education will be for in 2020 and its role in wealth generation, preparation for employment and social and cultural enrichment. It will look at the international business of Higher Education, the growing threats from other regions and ways of financing for future success.
On the second day a participative structure will enable participants to select themes of interest to them including internationalisation (opportunities and challenges for achieving excellence through partnerships), evolving pedagogy (including the scope for MOOCs and blended learning to expand and enrich learning for existing and new types of students), meeting the needs of different types of students in 2020 by delivery at home or abroad, education for employment and entrepreneurship and ways of building research capacity.
