Joint Affinity Groups (JAG) aims to build upon the power of shifting demographics that are making the US a majority-minority country of diverse communities. To be effective, philanthropy must develop responses that are inclusive and equitable, especially for communities that have been historically under-resourced. Advancing Equity Together will develop a new vision and framework for aligned and collaborative action on equity among JAG groups and a broader range of stakeholders in the field during 2014.
Advancing Equity Together is a collaboration among seven identity-based JAG partner organizations (Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy [AAPIP], Association of Black Foundation Executives [ABFE], Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy [EPIP], Funders for LGBTQ Issues, Hispanics in Philanthropy [HIP], Native Americans in Philanthropy [NAP], and Women’s Funding Network.
We represent a national network of more than 20,000 people of all ages: AAPI, Black, Latino, Native, women, men, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities in the philanthropic, nonprofit, and corporate sectors.
We need you! Your support and perspective are critical to the discourse.
Advancing Equity Together consists of three groundbreaking efforts that build upon each other:
1. Retreat: Convening of JAG partner staff and boards of directors to develop a shared analysis about equity & deepen relationships among partners, sharing successes & enduring challenges
2. Unity Summit: A conference for JAG partners, their members and stakeholders to create shared strategies for advancing equity, assess equity work, and develop a new vision & plan for collaboration;
3. New Framework: Facilitated meetings after the summit that redefine a framework for aligned work through JAG to respond to the outcomes of the board-staff retreat, the Unity Summit, and propose new plans for future JAG collaboration and individual work.
