iThings, data everywhere, M2M, connected objects, Web 3.0, are not just buzzwords touting the next big thing. It is said that the “Internet of Things” (IoT) will likely be one of the most important technological advances of this century.
By 2020, an estimated 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet.
This hyperconnected world is fueling the creation of an IoT that will bring devices, systems and people closer together. It’s about a melding of the physical world and the virtual world.

Whether controlling your house thermostat from your phone with The Nest or monitoring your weight and health via a FitBit scale, it is clear IoT will have a lasting impact.
In fact, it impacts a broad range of industries, from power, energy, sustainability, consumer electronics, auto, financial, health, to hospitality and more.

“Trying to determine the market size of the Internet of Things is like trying to calculate the market for plastics, circa 1940.
At that time, it was difficult to imagine that plastics could be in everything” says Georgetown University Communication, Culture & Technology professor Michael Nelson.

IoT applications will also create new demands and challenges. It’s not just about embedded sensors. It’s about a vast Internet and mobile networks infrastructure required as we experience a shift from a world of inanimate objects and reactive devices to a world where data, intelligence and computing power are distributed, ubiquitous, and networked.

The LeWeb program will explore IoT from all of these angles.
We will see the hottest new technologies, learn how entrepreneurs are adapting and talk to industry visionaries about whether or not they think this next version of the Internet is truly the second Renaissance.
