The idea started back in May 2012 when Cian Ó Maidín (CEO nearForm) established Ireland's first Node.js user group ( www.nodejsdublin.com). The first meetup was a huge success, it was held at EngineYard in Dublin, the first full capcaity meetup ever held in Engine Yard! Lots of people in the Irish development community were interested in Node.js. The interesting thing about the meetup was that most of the attendees even though interested were not using Node yet. Cian and the core user group members decided that it would be the right thing to do to help people to learn Node and to help to promote Node.js in the Irish development community. Having heard about the legendary NodeConf held in Portland Oregan USA in 2011 Cian and co started searching for a conference all about Node in Europe... At the time there wasn't anything like NodeConf planned in Europe for 2012 and the Irish development community were not all going to be able to travel to the USA! It became apparent then what had to be done! Over the space of 2 days it was decided that a Node Conference should be held in Dublin,.. "it just seemed like the right thing to do, it's is a long way to the Portland from Ireland after all!".
Node Dublin 2012 is being held and hosted in arguably the most iconic brewery in the world:- The Guinness Storehouse in the heart of Dublin City.
