Clarion’s Prepaid Conference has long been considered a preeminent meeting place for the payments industry as well as a crucial opportunity for the people actually using prepaid in government, transport, retail and corporates to learn about the latest innovations and use cases.
Prepaid 2012 – 435 attendees from over 25 nations, +200 end users, 24 sponsor and exhibitors, 75 speakers all over 3 days - Our largest yet!
Prepaid 2012 kicked off with a full house in the Regulatory Workshop run by Neopay. Over 25 senior executives from across Europe joined Neopay, the UK’s leading e-money compliance specialists, for an in-depth guide into becoming FSA authorised. The day concluded with the brilliantly lively Harben and West Drinks Reception.
The conference began with a brilliant opening address by the conference chair Robert Courtneidge, International Head of Cards and Payments at Locke Lord and chairman of PIF. The congregation went on to hear from the industry leaders from MasterCard, Siemens, European Commission, Visa, Marks & Spencer, Barclays, Everything Everywhere and many more.
Our industry panels on the ‘European regulatory environment’, ‘the reality of a cashless society’ and ‘exploring prepaid in Global markets’ provoked interesting and fiery discussion amongst the panelists and delegation. And though the industry may not have quite reached a conclusion, progress was definitely made in understanding how to collectively move forward as an industry.
The countdown and winner of the Prepaid Power 10 was also announced on-site at Prepaid 2012. With a brilliant list of industry celebrities the winner was chosen as Matt Lanford, Senior Business Leader, Prepaid Europe at MasterCard Worldwide.

Arguably the highlight of the event for those who attended was the Prepaid 2012 Dragons’ Den. This brand new feature of the event was a great success as 3 fantastic companies, Carta Worldwide, Cash Star and Cashbackpoint pitched their product to our 4 dragons; Dave Birch, Mark Beresford, David Parker and Robert Courtneidge.
After a brilliant presentation and withstanding fierce questioning Cashbackpoint were chosen as the first winners of the Prepaid Dragons’ Den. Stay tuned for more information on watching the Dragons’ Den session!
So in conclusion, Prepaid 2012 was a fantastic success. From a packed workshop, a buzzing exhibition room to the informative, interactive conference room. The Prepaid team would like to once again thank everyone who came to the event and to our speakers and sponsors for all their support!
