A hallmark of the design thinking approach is to get visual and physical as quickly as possible to externalise ideas, turbo-charge collaboration, iterate through possible solutions and scenarios, and fail fast to learn fast. More than a technique, prototyping is a mindset that is present in the simple act of sketching an unformed spark of an idea, to testing a fully developed service or product ‘mock-up.’
Prototyping for Innovation is an intensive hands-on exploration of the prototyping mindset, tools and techniques. Participants will be led through learning exercises to prototype different kinds of design challenges, including prototyping of services, and the application of ‘live’ prototyping principles and practices.
The course will draw on recent thinking on prototyping from Stanford d-school and the Institute of Design in Chicago.
Innovation by Design Education Suite
This course is the newest addition to the ThinkPlace Innovation by Design Education Suite. The original suite consists of three courses, each addressing a critical aspect of an integrated innovation capability within an organisation—Leading for Innovation, Organising for Innovation and Designing for Innovation.
We are now adding advanced courses that explore concepts, practices and techniques in more depth, aimed at the next level of capability development.
Who should attend
Experienced public sector designers with a good working knowledge of the design process, who are looking for advanced capability development. If you are interested in deepening your design and innovation skills this course is for you.
Provide theoretical grounding to understand the prototyping mindset.
Provide practical insights and tools for public sector designers to be able to engage prototyping practice in their everyday work.
