It attracts over 500 top executives, producers and presenters from the BBC, commercial and indie sectors together with community, hospital and student radio and other radio related companies. Radio Festival 2014, which takes place at MediaCityUK in Salford on 13th-15th October 2014, features a special one-day conference for engineers and technicians (TechCon), a student event (Foot In The Door), a special Masterclass, the John Peel Lecture, and a glitzy Gala Event on the Tuesday evening.
The annual event returns for 2014 on a larger scale, with greater emphasis on learnings and more opportunities to hear from people in other creative industries. New for this year’s Festival is the ‘How To…’ day, which is being held on Tuesday 14th October in partnership with the BBC Academy and Creative Skillset. Tickets cost just £99 and the aim is to offer a year’s worth of training in just one day.
There will be sessions on how to get the most out of talent both on and off air, how to make an impact with social media, how to create powerful messages on air, as well as a Breakfast Bootcamp session with US radio executive Tracy Johnson on being a hit at Breakfast. Plus, there will be a chance for delegates to meet and network with some of the key leaders in the industry. The ‘How To…’ day will provide a great insight and practical takeways into radio that will be a valuable addition to any CV.
The Radio Festival Masterclass returns, this year with John Humphrys. As presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, John is a legend in the industry with a career spanning almost six decades. He has interviewed political, business and media leaders and has the ability to make or break reputations. John will be talking about the art of the interview and how he prepares. In the year before the general election, it’s a must for every reporter, presenter, producer and programme director looking to make headlines in 2015. The session will be on Monday evening and tickets cost £99. Delegates will also get access to the BBC 6 Music John Peel Lecture with 7digital, which is also taking place that night.
The Radio Academy’s annual Radio Festival brings together a broad and eclectic mix of people working in radio, sales, advertising and other supplementary businesses to debate, network and do business, while hearing from the very best radio talent from both sides of the mic.
Valuable insights from experts in other fields and overseas markets complement a full, varied and entertaining programme.
