The 2013 Summer School conference was held at Staffordshire between 2-4 September. If you were unable to attend and would like a flavour of the sort of event you missed, visit the 2013 conference programme page.
The Annual Summer School Conference is open to members and non-members and is usually held over two-three days in September at a different location each year. It creates an ideal opportunity to attend lectures, exhibitions, seminars and workshops, as well as to visit a broad spectrum of mapping establishments.
The friendly and relaxed atmosphere is a pleasant and stimulating way to keep up to date with new technology. It is especially beneficial for those working within small units or freelance who can particularly benefit from the informal discussions and exchange of ideas with fellow mapmakers.
A theme of the 2009 conference at Southampton was Google mash-ups, so it seemed appropriate to put a couple together (courtesy of Mike Shand, Glasgow University), one to show the location of delegates at the 2009 conference, the other to show the history of Summer School conference locations.
Each year at the Summer School the Wallis Award is presented for excellence in cartography.
