This will be the third TEDxManchester and is going to be the biggest and most daring we have tried so far. It has been created in partnership with TEDxUniversityOfManchester, a newly formed TEDx group led by Maarten Walraven, Jeremy Lyen, Ghalia Tariq and Omar Aljuhani. This year we have the privilege of hosting this event from the famous Manchester Academy in the middle of the university campus. We hope that the event will allow all of our delegates the chance to network, be inspired and learn something new.
The first TEDxManchester took place in 2009 at the BBC’s New Broadcasting House on Oxford Road. We took over the historic Studio 7 and converted the BBC Philharmonic’s rehearsal space into a conference venue and created what was then Europe’s largest ever TEDx event. The second TEDx saw us collaborate with our friends at Cornerhouse.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
