The Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA) is a business membership organization that represents the interests of importers and exporters in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region. The Council’s mandate is to advocate for an improved policy and trade environment, sensitize shippers on their rights and obligations in import and export trade, interpret relevant government regulations and procedures, and provide a platform for sharing experiences through networking forums, training and awareness workshops, and firm level interventions.

Trade, Transport & Logistics Conference & Exhibition (TTLC) is the inaugural conference organized by Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA) to be held on 29th-30th October 2014 at Safari Park Hotel. The conference, a first of its kind in East Africa, will bring together cargo owners, government, industry stakeholders and Information Communication and Technology (ICT) service providers across the region to engage on how to streamline bottlenecks affecting the logistics industry. Themed “Leveraging Technology for Efficiency in the Supply Chain”, the conference will focus on technology advancements that have been and could be made in improving transport and logistics in the region.

The World Bank has ranked EAC as one of the trading blocs that is characterized by high costs, lengthy procedures and immense complexities in the logistics chain. This has largely been attributed to the lack of efficient technology solutions that address these bottlenecks. It is known that Information Communication and Technology has the capability of addressing even the most complex of challenges. An example of the World’s best countries in trade and logistics like Singapore and The Netherlands are efficiently using ICT solutions to ease trade. However, the lack of its use within the East Africa region is in itself a barrier to trade.

It is against this background that SCEA is convening the first Logistics Conference and Exhibition to assemble the both government and private sector to highlight issues affecting the industry and propose solutions to mitigate perennial challenges in the region that are essentially slowing down regional integration. The conference will also give an opportunity to companies who wish to take up exhibition booths to market their products and services to the conference delegates and invited guests. In addition, there will be an opportunity for B2B engagement between the delegates and exhibitors. Those wishing to participate in the B2B will be required to sign up at the point of registration.
